In 1795, a teenager named Daniel McGinnis discovered odd pits on Oak Island. He and his friends dug the first pit, convinced that it was the site of the lost buried treasure of the pirate Captain Kidd. Inexplicably, they became overcome with fear after digging only a short while and never returned. For the next century, entrepreneurs, treasure hunters, shady characters, and even a president tried to dig on Oak Island. Every single one was sure Kidd buried his treasure there.
